On Friday, June 30, 2023, the Global Engagement Division organized a tour of Sendai and Tohoku University campuses with the purpose of strengthening relations between international alumni and Tohoku University. The event took place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and provided an opportunity for two alumni from Sweden and Malaysia and a current international student from Taiwan to visit places that hold fond memories of their experience at the university.

Gustav, who lives in Sweden and works for a Japanese company, learned about the tour while on vacation in Tokyo and decided to come to Sendai to relive memories of his time as a student at Tohoku University. Gustav said he was very happy to have had the opportunity to travel to Sendai and to interact with other alumni and students and remembering with them how it was studying here.

Despite the continuous rain typical of the rainy season in Japan, the participants were not discouraged and embarked on a trip down memory lane. After meeting at Sendai Station, the group walked through the most famous places in Sendai to finally visit University House Sanjo, Tohoku University's student dormitory in Sanjo-machi. The alumni who had not visited the dormitory for a long time remembered about their student days at Tohoku University.

At the Kawauchi Campus, even the taste of curry rice, the most popular menu item at the student cafeteria, seemed to bring back sweet old memories. The tour participants shared a sense of solidarity as members of the Tohoku University community and rediscovered the charm of the city of Sendai.
