On Friday, August 28, 2026, President Teiji Tominaga, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, and President-appointed Extraordinary Professor Hitoshi Tanaka visited Hanoi to strengthen connections with Tohoku University alumni and further develop the relationship with Thuyloi University.

Accompanied by Dr. Kieu Minh, a Tohoku University alumna currently working at the Vietnam–Japan Institute for Human Resources Development, the delegation began the day with a visit to the production facilities and offices of LiveSpo PHARMA, a probiotics company founded and led by Dr. Nguyen Anh Hoa, a distinguished Tohoku University alumnus.

President Tominaga was deeply impressed not only by Dr. Nguyen Anh Hoa’s research and work, but also by the great success of the products developed by his team, led by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, a Tohoku University alumna and Director of the company’s Spobiotic Research Center.

Following the company tour, the delegation attended a networking lunch organized by the Tohoku University Alumni Association Vietnam (TUAAV), which was joined by a number of Tohoku University alumni.

Over lunch, the alumni had the opportunity to speak directly with President Tominaga and other members of the delegation, sharing memories of their time at Tohoku University and their experiences after graduation, while enjoying Vietnamese cuisine together.

After lunch, the delegation moved to Thuyloi University to participate in the Alumni Impact Seminar, where several Tohoku University alumni shared their career paths, achievements, and experiences following their graduation.

The stories highlighted once again how the knowledge, experiences, and relationships gained at Tohoku University have contributed to the alumni’s professional development and achievements, making the seminar a valuable opportunity to further enhance the presence and impact of Tohoku University in Vietnam.

In response to the strong interest shown by students at Thuyloi University, information was also provided on study and educational opportunities at Tohoku University.

President Tominaga then held a Presidential Meeting with the leadership of Thuyloi University, headed by Rector Nguyen Trung Viet, who also serves as Chairman of TUAAV and was one of the recipients of the 2025 Tohoku University International Award.

The day concluded with a dinner hosted by Thuyloi University on campus, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas and deepen their connections in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Throughout the visit, President Tominaga and his delegation had the opportunity to witness first-hand the passion and strong commitment that Thuyloi University and the Tohoku University Alumni Association Vietnam (TUAAV) have toward Tohoku University.

The visit further strengthened the longstanding ties between Tohoku University and Vietnam and opened the door to new opportunities for alumni, researchers, and students in the years to come.
